RYKO DISTRIBUTION AND KGD MEDIA

Dear friends and partners:

We are pleased to finally share some great news with you all!

KGD Media has signed an exclusive distribution agreement with Ryko Distribution who will be handling KGD's sales, collections and order fulfillment to stores. Many of you probably know Ryko already, but for those who want a little background, here's a snippet from Wikipedia:

“Claiming to be the first CD-only independent record label in the United States, Ryko DistributionRykodisc was founded in 1983 (or 1984) in Salem, Massachusetts, by Arthur Mann, Rob Simonds, Doug Lexa and Don Rose. The word "ryko" means approximately "sound from a flash of light" in Japanese, a reference to their intention to concentrate on the then-new compact disc technology. In the late 1980s, the label also began to issue high-quality cassette and vinyl versions of many releases under the name Ryko Analogue.

Rykodisc had some notable successes in the CD-reissue industry, as artists such as Elvis Costello, David Bowie, Yoko Ono, Frank Zappa and Mission of Burma allowed Rykodisc to issue their catalogs on CD. Rykodisc still retains the rights to the Zappa and Mission of Burma catalogs. Rykodisc also has re-released the classic SST Records-era recordings by the Meat Puppets.

Over the years the label has acquired Hannibal Records, Tradition Records, Gramavision Records and Restless Records, as well as founded a distribution company, Ryko Distribution and a music publishing company, Rykomusic. The label's catalogue now exceeds 1,200 titles.

On March 23, 2006, it was announced that Warner Music Group acquired the Ryko Corporation for $67.5 million.”

Needless to say, our new alliance with Ryko Distribution greatly enhances the sales potential of our releases and their availability.

We are however, still in a state of flux and transition. As you can imagine, we are currently set with the task of transferring all of our data including release info, sales info and history, inventory figures, etc. We will be working as fast as possible to get everything back on track and ask you to have just a little patience while we get set up.

Viva KGD Media!

NEW BEGINNINGS

Dear esteemed friends and partners,

As some of you have most likely heard the news by now, our physical and independent account fulfiller, Syntax Music Distribution is unfortunately closing this week. We are deeply saddened by this news as not only have they been our partners in business but good friends for many years as well.

Please be rest assured that KGD Media will NOT be closing! We cannot announce exactly how or with whom we will be continuing with yet, but be rest assured that we’ve been working very hard at finding an appropriate solution.

Infact, if everything goes as planned, we will be in an even better position than ever to distribute your releases moving forward.

We promise to make the announcement as soon as everything’s confirmed. Please be patient in the meantime.

We look forward to 2008 being a most prosperous year and bringing you even better service and sales to your releases!

Best regards,
Mark, Andrew, & Max

ALMA / THE SOUL OF BRAZIL IN NEW YORK

ALMAThree years ago, NYC’s Veteran DJ True of radio’s Deeper Than Disco fame got together with percussionist Miller Cruz to create a new Brazilian sound they’ve coined as “neo-Brasilian fusion”. Drawing on their Brazilian roots, they’ve created a sound that has quickly won the world over with big batucada beats and a soulful NYC cool. ALMA ("soul" in Portuguese) "All for the Love of Music & Art" fuses live instrumentation with Brazilian grooves, house, broken beat, and other forms of underground electronica and has received nothing but rave reviews since its start. The idea is to feature the traditional sounds of Brazil, from samba to bossa, and incorporate all the newly inspired sounds coming from a new crop of musicians from Brazil and beyond. The party has featured Louie Vega and The Elements of Life, Joe Claussell, Osunlade, DJ Afro, and countless others.

Dedication and heart takes centerstage on this album with legendary Brazilian soul singer Ed Motta collaborating with Alex Attias (Bel-Air Project, Beatless, Mustang and Catalyst). Ramiro Musotto traveled to the Amazon to record with the Native Indians while SUBA was the late great producer founder of the label Ziriguiboom who met a tragic death. “Valldemossa (Pélé Version)” features a great interview with soccer legend Pélé when he was only 26 years old and Banda Black Rio was the first band to place Brazilian Jazz-Funk on the international scene, back in the late 70’s/early 80’s and has influenced such acts as Jamiroquai and Incognito.

PRESS QUOTES & REVIEWS:

BPM MAGAZINE:

ALMA has become one of Gotham City’s premiere monthly events and eclectic underground scenes. Launched in 2004 by creators Joann Jimenez, Manchildblack and resident DJs True and Miller Cruz, the multicultural soiree has evolved into a quintessential spiritual oasis for serious music lovers. Since its inception, Alma has become renowned for its "Neo-Brazilian Fusion" sound that melds live instrumentation with soul, jazz, Brazilian, Afro-Latin, Bossa Nova, deep house and broken beat creating a transcendent nirvana where exotic cosmic vibes converge and disseminate in vibrant hues. It’s not surprising that nitelife veterans like Francois K., Louie Vega, Danny Krivit and Joe Claussell have all been spotted basking in the poly-rhythmic soundscapes among the throngs. This inspired collection features some of the party’s most feverish, crowd-pleasing anthems including offerings from Azymuth, 4Hero, Richard Dorfmeister, Suba, Restless Soul, Belladonna, Slope and Alex Attias. This is a must-have for fans of Body & Soul, Dance Ritual, Roots and The Loft.” -- Craig Roseberry

BATANGA (Aug/Sept 2007 Issue):
"There is nothing like Brazilian music to bring out the good vibes. Mixed by DJ True and Miller Cruz (the main record spinners at NYC’s amazing ALMA parties), The Soul of Brazil taps into the eclectic Brazilian sound that made these parties successful. You get some funky wah-wah on Azymuth’s "Partido Novo" and by the time you get to Karizma’s percussion filled mix of "The Caribou", there is no question about who owns the soul of Brazil in New York." -- Rodrigo Salazar
